All inspection procedures are visual unless additional inspection procedures are indicated or where applied force is necessary to verify tightness and/or component security. The definitions can be found in the “Definitions and Acronyms” section.

While no standard format existed from 1954 to 1981, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration standardized s in 1981 to include specific characters, excluding O, I, and Q to prevent confusion with numbers.

Manufacturer's Compliance Label is a label applied to a vehicle by the manufacturer that states the vehicle conforms to all applicable Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards () in effect on the date of manufacture.
